History

History of Eye Vein Biometrics

In 2005, Dr. Reza Derakhshani, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), and Dr. Arun Ross, West Virginia University (WVU), conceived a new biometric modality that identifies individuals using the rich and unique vascular patterns seen on the white of the eye. The use of vasculature as a biometric meets all the requirements for a robust system (Universal, Permanence, Practical, User Acceptability, Non-circumventible). Given the uniqueness and innovative approach, a patent was successfully filed and received by UMKC and WVU (US Patent number 7,327,860; issued on 2/5/2008 to Reza Derakhshani and Arun Ross).

EyeVerify has negotiated a world wide exclusive license to this patent and related IP.
